Berdorf Rocks & Wolf's Gorge walk: Champagne on the clifftop
Rock labyrinths and a champagne break above the forest
A guided walk through Berdorf's Mullerthal Trail focuses on the sandstone formations that matter: narrow clefts, a rock labyrinth, a cave reached by ladder, and the Wolf's Gorge. The guide explains how the stone was quarried and shaped, stops partway round on a clifftop terrace for champagne, fruit, cheese and charcuterie, then drives you to Echternach for the region's deepest gorge. Four to five hours, uneven rocky ground with optional ladder climbing.

The experience
You arrive in Berdorf with a free afternoon or a morning to spare, and the Mullerthal Trail stretches for kilometres: most of it ordinary forest. This walk skips that. Your guide takes you only to the rock formations worth the climb: the mossy corridors of the Siweschlëff labyrinth, clifftop viewpoints above Berdorf, and a cave you climb into by iron ladder. Along the way, he explains how the sandstone was quarried, worn and split into the shapes you stand inside.
Partway round, you stop on a rock terrace at the edge of the plateau. Your guide opens a bottle of champagne and lays out fruit, cheese and charcuterie while you sit above the treetops. Nobody hurries you. The terrace is the moment the walk builds toward: the view and the time to take it in.
Afterwards you drive the short distance to Echternach for the Wolf's Gorge. The walls close in until they nearly meet overhead. It is the strongest single sight in the Mullerthal and the right way to end the day. The walk covers three to four kilometres on uneven, rocky ground with steps. One short iron ladder is optional. Bring shoes with good grip: sandstone turns slippery after rain. Tell your guide in advance of any dietary details.
