The Experience

You step off the taxi on Meza Street, find the sign that says "Sautuve," and walk downstairs into a place most European gun ranges don't exist. The Riga gun range sits here, 47 different weapons waiting, and your booking is already confirmed — passport in hand, you're ready to shoot. The package includes a Glock 17, a Kalashnikov, and a Winchester. That's five shots, three shots, three shots. Safety goggles and ear defenders are yours before you touch anything. An English-speaking instructor walks you through the stance, the grip, how to breathe before you pull the trigger.

The Kalashnikov comes first for most people — it's the one everyone recognizes, the one you can't legally fire at ranges in half the countries you've probably visited. Three rounds down the range, and then the Winchester, which kicks harder than you expected. The Glock 17 is last, the pistol that feels almost familiar by then. If you came with friends, you can turn it into a competition; the range lets groups do that.
