The experience
Your guide meets you at your hotel in the morning and drives toward Burana Tower, an ancient minaret near Tokmok about 80 km away. The route crosses the Tien Shan foothills and passes through Tokmok, where Soviet-era industrial history sits alongside village life. At Burana Tower itself, you can climb to the top for views across the Chui Valley and the mountains, then explore the small museum and open-air exhibits of stone carvings and rock drawings that scatter the site.
The drive continues through Boom Gorge, where the Chu River has carved dramatic clay canyons between the Chui Valley and Issyk-Kul Lake. A stop here includes traditional Kyrgyz snacks: kattama (a puff cake) and tea from a Russian samovar, before you arrive at Cholpon-Ata on the lake's northern shore. There you visit the Historical Museum, then the open-air museum with petroglyphs dating from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD, set against panoramic views of the lake and the Kungei Alatau mountains. The Rukh Ordo cultural center, a few minutes away, blends different religions and histories in a single peaceful space.
The boat ride is the centerpiece: you sail across Issyk-Kul, the world's second-largest alpine lake, surrounded by snowy Tian Shan peaks. A short swimming break is offered for anyone who wants to enter the cool, transparent water (safety vests provided). After the boat returns, you spend time in natural hot springs with mineral-rich warm water. Spa services like massage and piling are available. The tour ends with a drive back to Bishkek, arriving around 9–10pm.
