The experience

The day starts at your hotel at 8:30 am with a professional guide and driver. The first stop is the Nairobi National Museum, open since 1929, where you walk through Kenya's history, art and cultural heritage across all 365 days of the year. By 10:30 am you leave for the city centre to visit August 7th Memorial Park, a quiet space along Haile Selassie Avenue dedicated to those who died in the 1998 bombing. The walk takes about an hour and the guide explains the site's significance.

Next is the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, one of Nairobi's tallest buildings. You can ride the elevator to the rooftop for a wide view of the city skyline, then have an hour free for lunch before heading south. Bomas of Kenya sits 10 km from the city centre, just past the entrance to Nairobi National Park. The word "boma" is Swahili for an enclosed homestead, and the site holds many of them: each one built and run by people from one of Kenya's major ethnic groups. You see how different communities live, the crafts they make, the music they play. The traditional dances and acrobatic show runs from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on weekdays and 3:30 pm to 5:15 pm on weekends and public holidays. After that, your guide drops you at your chosen location and the tour ends.
