The experience
The session starts with a pamphlet that walks you through sake culture and history, then moves into the tasting itself. You'll pick three types of sake from a nationwide selection, then choose three delicacies that have been eaten in Japan since ancient times. The pairing is yours to design: you taste each combination, compare the flavors, and see what works. Because you pour small amounts at a time, even people who don't usually drink alcohol can join in without pressure.
A staff member photographs your tasting so you have images to share once you're back at your hotel or heading to your next stop. The whole experience fits into 90 minutes, which leaves the rest of your Shinjuku afternoon or evening open. Entry, all the sake and snacks, and taxes are included in the price.
