The experience
You arrive in Kawagoe (the old merchant quarter called Kuranomachi or "little Edo") with a photographer who has shot over 2,000 portraits in six years and speaks Spanish fluently. Instead of posing for selfies at the photogenic storefronts, you walk the streets while the photographer frames you naturally against the wooden facades, narrow lanes and period details. The city bus gets you from Tokyo (Shinjuku) in about an hour. Your guide handles the route and timing.
The tour moves through four stops: the atmospheric streets of Coedo, where you can stop for local food (sweet satsumaimo, kakigori, yakisoba, grilled eel, local beer) at your own pace; the Yamazaki Family Old Villa, a traditional house with a Japanese garden and tatami rooms where a formal photo session happens; and a popular shrine where the photographer does a mini session in Japanese style. Walking is moderate and the pace is yours. The photographer works around your comfort and interests.
You receive 30 professionally edited photos as digital downloads and access to an online gallery where all images live. If you want to wear a kimono during the shoot, tell the guide when you book. The shopkeeper at a rental shop helps you dress in one of dozens of styles, complete with obi, sandals and bag. The whole experience runs five to six hours from pickup to return.
