Step-by-step itinerary

  • Travel from Nagoya to Hirugano Plateau
  • Explore flower park and mountain farm
  • Feed animals and enjoy local treats
  • Hike with guide through Kamikochi valley

The experience

The day starts with a drive from Nagoya into the Hida Highlands, where you'll spend time at a flower park and working farm high in the mountains. The guide gives a brief overview, then you're free to move at your own pace: photograph the seasonal blooms, feed the animals, taste locally made ice cream, or simply sit with the views. This unscheduled stretch lets you linger on what catches your attention without the group waiting.

After regrouping with your guide, you board the bus for Kamikochi, the alpine valley that is the heart of the day. Your guide leads a trek through the mountain pass, stopping to point out the flora and fauna along the way, and you reach Kappa-bashi Bridge: the famous wooden span that defines the landscape here. You get roughly an hour of free time at the bridge to eat, shop for souvenirs, or keep walking and exploring on your own. At 4 p.m. the group boards the bus back to Nagoya Station, arriving in the evening.

The tour runs eight hours total and suits all fitness levels. You can choose an English or Spanish-speaking guide, and the bus transport and admission fees are included in the price. If you'd rather not return to Nagoya, you can arrange drop-off in Takayama or stay in Kamikochi instead.
