Step-by-step itinerary

Kagoshima city sightseeing tour

  • View city and Sakurajima from Shiroyama observatory
  • Experience Sengan-en garden and cultural activities
  • Explore Kagoshima Aquarium

The experience

What does a day in Kagoshima actually look like when you don't have to navigate the city alone? The City View Bus takes your group to five major sites in a single loop, with an English-speaking guide who knows the history and can answer questions as you move between stops. You start at the Museum of the Meiji Restoration by the Kōtsuki River, then see the 8-meter monument to the 19th-century general who led that transformation. From Shiroyama observatory, you look out over the city and across to Sakurajima, the volcano that defines Kagoshima's skyline.

Sengan-en Garden is where the day opens up. It holds a large Japanese garden, restaurants, and facilities registered as World Cultural Heritage sites, so you're standing in history, not just reading about it. Depending on the season, you either make Shirokuma ice by hand (May through September) or sit for a matcha tea ceremony. The tour wraps at Kagoshima Aquarium. Round-trip transportation, every admission fee, and the guide are all included. You arrange your own lunch at one of the stops or bring something with you.

Groups stay between two and eight people, so it's just your party on the bus. The whole day runs seven hours. Children under six don't pay. From age six onward, they're counted in the group size and pricing. Strollers and prams work fine if you're traveling with infants.
