The experience
The coach leaves from Central train station (Hotel Gallia) in Milan and heads toward Verona, one of northern Italy's most visited cities. Once there, you walk through the historic center to see the Arena, a 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheater still standing at the heart of the city. Juliet's Balcony draws crowds year-round (many touch the bronze statue for luck), and Piazza delle Erbe, the old marketplace, sits nearby with its medieval towers and Renaissance palaces framing the square. You have free time to grab lunch before the afternoon leg begins.
In the afternoon, the coach transfers you to Sirmione, a small town built on a peninsula jutting into Lake Garda. The Scaliger Castle rises from the water at the town's entrance, its crenelated walls and drawbridge marking it as a medieval fortress. You board a boat for a cruise on the lake itself, weather permitting, then walk through Sirmione's narrow streets lined with shops selling local products and souvenirs. The return journey to Milan takes you back the way you came, arriving in the evening.
