The Experience

We met our guide just outside the walls—she waved at us with this blue badge and a grin, like she’d been waiting all morning. There were moments when the crowds pressed close, especially near the Gallery of Maps (I nearly lost my sister to a group of French schoolkids), but our guide always had this trick—she’d angle us into a quiet corner or point out something tiny I would’ve missed, like a hidden papal crest tucked above a doorway. And then suddenly we were in the Sistine Chapel. It’s quieter there than you’d expect, almost heavy. You’re not supposed to talk but someone whispered “wow” anyway.
