The experience

This is a private transfer, not a guided tour. You're picked up from your Positano accommodation and driven toward Naples, with the option to pause at Pompeii or Herculaneum on the way. The stop lasts one hour, enough time to walk the stone streets and see the preserved buildings and artifacts without rushing. If you want longer at the site, you can extend the visit. Each additional hour runs 50 euros.

The driver handles the route and the timing to Naples station. You choose which site to visit: Pompeii, the larger and more famous of the two, or Herculaneum, which is smaller and less crowded. Both are UNESCO heritage sites buried by Vesuvius's eruption in 79 AD. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and the journey itself takes two to four hours depending on traffic and how long you spend at your chosen stop.

What’s included

  • Private air-conditioned vehicle with pickup from your Positano location.
  • one-hour stop at Pompeii or Herculaneum of your choice.
  • transfer to Naples station.

Is this one for you?The one-hour stop is a pause, not an excavation. You'll see the highlights and walk the streets, but not explore deeply. Book this if you want a taste of the ruins on your way to Naples, or extend the stop by the hour if you'd rather spend the morning there.

Top questions

Can I visit both Pompeii and Herculaneum on the same transfer?

The standard stop covers one site for one hour. You can extend your time at either location for 50 euros per additional hour, but visiting both sites would require booking extra time beyond the included hour.

What is there to see in Pompeii during a one-hour stop?

Pompeii is a sprawling archaeological site, so one hour lets you walk the main streets and see preserved buildings, mosaics and artifacts, though you won't cover the entire city. Herculaneum is more compact, so an hour there gives you a more complete picture of daily Roman life.

Does the transfer wait for me at Pompeii, or do I need to arrange my own way to Naples?

The driver waits during your stop and then continues with you to Naples station, so the transfer is unbroken. You don't need separate transport between the site and the station.

Is the one-hour stop long enough, or should I book extra time?

One hour is enough for a walk through the main areas and a sense of the site, but if you want to linger, read the plaques, or visit a museum at either location, adding an hour or two is worth the 50-euro cost per hour.

What if I'm traveling with young children or a stroller?

Specialized infant seats are available, and children can travel in a pram or stroller. The archaeological sites have uneven ground and stairs, so a stroller works better at Herculaneum than at the larger, more spread-out Pompeii.
