The experience
You arrive at either the Vespa Museum or your hotel for pickup, then mount your own scooter for a half-day ride through Rome. The guide leads from the front, setting the pace and choosing the stops, so you follow the route without navigating. A helmet is provided and included. The guide speaks English and gives live commentary as you ride. The tour covers the Appian Way (where ancient Roman stones are still visible in the street), and the Aurelian Walls that marked the city's ancient limits, so you see how Rome's territory expanded over centuries.
The route passes Via Veneto, the street where actors and directors once gathered during the era of La Dolce Vita, and Sant'Angelo Bridge, one of Rome's most monumental crossings. You stop at Aventine Hill, one of Rome's seven hills, where you can see an overview of the main monuments from above. The Pantheon (built as a temple to all divinities and now a basilica), and Trevi Fountain, the city's largest and most famous fountain, are both on the itinerary. A stop at the Knights of Malta square lets you look through the famous keyhole to glimpse the secret gardens inside.
All taxes, fees and handling charges are included in the price. You choose your departure time and location at checkout: morning or afternoon, starting from your hotel or from the Vespa Museum. A maximum of 10 people ride per booking, so the group stays small. The tour operates in all weather, so bring appropriate clothing and avoid high heels. You'll need to tell the operator your weight when you book so they can assign you the right scooter.

The afternoon option works better if you're arriving in Rome mid-day or prefer to sleep in. Hotel pickup means you don't need to navigate to the Vespa Museum, though starting there lets you visit the museum before the ride begins.
