Nine hours total (pickup, the tour itself, and return to the ship) means you leave the port and come back with time to spare. The minivan collects you at the ship and drives you into Rome proper. Once there, the golf cart takes over: you see the Colosseum from outside while your guide explains its history, stop at Trevi Fountain to toss a coin, walk into the Pantheon at your own pace, approach Spanish Steps as close as the vehicle can go (the square itself is closed to motor traffic, so you walk the final stretch), and finish at Piazza Navona, where your guide points out Bernini's fountain and the church of St. Agnes across the square, built by his rival Borromini.
