The experience
The walk starts at the Leica Store and moves into Piazza del Duomo, where you'll learn to work a crowded square: picking a strong frame, waiting for the right person to step into it, and turning a busy scene into a clean, intentional image. From there you step into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the 19th-century arcade under its glass and iron dome, where the symmetry and soft light give you endless chances to practice composition and leading lines. You'll watch visitors spin on the famous bull mosaic for good luck: a small ritual that repeats every few seconds and teaches you timing without staging anything.
The route moves through Piazza Cordusio with its grand palaces and passing trams, then to Piazza degli Affari, where Maurizio Cattelan's L.O.V.E. sculpture faces the Stock Exchange. Your guide shows you how a photograph can carry a message and how to frame the sculpture against the architecture behind it. You'll also step into the TASCHEN Store to see the photography books and photographers that shaped the guide's own work, so you leave with new names to follow and a clearer sense of your own style.
The second half of the walk leaves the busy center behind. You'll reach the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, a 4th-century church with a Romanesque courtyard lined in brick arches: quiet and full of texture for practicing light and shadow. Then into the Ticinese neighborhood around the Roman columns of San Lorenzo, where students, trams, vintage shops and small cafés give you candid street photography subjects. The walk ends along the Navigli canals, where you'll capture reflections of colorful facades and boats, and the life of the neighborhood around you. Before you leave, you and your guide look through your favorite frames together so you know what worked and why.
