You’ll wander Sorrento’s old lanes, snap photos above Positano’s cliffs, and walk ancient Pompeii with local tips—all in one relaxed private day tour.
We left Naples just as the city was waking up—honestly, if you start around 8am, you’ll dodge most of the traffic. The air had that early-morning chill, but by the time we reached Sorrento (it’s about an hour’s drive), the sun was already warming up the narrow streets. Our driver dropped us right near Piazza Tasso. I wandered through the old town, past tiny shops selling lemon soap and those little ceramic bells you see everywhere. There’s a spot near the cliff edge where you can catch a salty breeze and watch locals setting up their café tables for the day.
The drive along the Amalfi Coast is something else—windows down, sea air mixing with whiffs of espresso from roadside bars. We stopped at a viewpoint (our guide knew just where to pull over) for photos of Positano tumbling down to the water. Big buses can’t get into these small towns, so it felt like we had Positano’s winding alleys almost to ourselves. Lunch was casual—a quick bite of fresh mozzarella and tomatoes at a tiny trattoria tucked behind a souvenir stall. You hear church bells and scooters more than tourists here.
By afternoon we made it to Pompeii. The site is huge—two hours barely scratches the surface, but it’s enough to get lost among ancient streets and faded frescoes. I’d recommend getting a local guide if you want real stories; ours pointed out graffiti scratched into stone walls and even showed us where bakeries once stood. The place smells faintly of dust and pine needles on hot days. Afterward, we headed back toward Naples port—tired feet but totally worth it.
Usually about an hour in Sorrento, time for lunch and exploring in Positano, then roughly two hours at Pompeii. It’s flexible depending on your pace.
