The experience
Polignano a Mare sits on the Adriatic coast south of Bari, built into cliffs that drop straight into the sea. This tour departs from the town's waterfront and sails the narrow coves and rock formations that make the coastline distinctive. The boat is new, equipped with a toilet and shower on board, and carries a maximum of twelve passengers: small enough that the guide can point out details without shouting over an engine. You'll pass the bronze statue of Domenico Modugno along the Lungomare, then head toward the Belvedere Terrazza Santo Stefano, a hilltop viewpoint visible from the water.
The tour anchors at three main swimming stops. Lama Monachile is the most famous: a narrow cove framed by golden sand and limestone walls, where the water is deep and clear enough to see the seafloor. Cala Port'Alga, quieter and less crowded, sits between rocky outcrops and offers the same turquoise water and snorkeling setup. Near the Abbey of San Vito (a 10th-century complex perched above the shore) you'll see Cala Fetente, a smaller cove known for its intimacy. At each stop, snorkeling equipment is provided, and the guide stays on board or in the water depending on the group's preference. Prosecco, coffee, tea, bottled water and snacks are available throughout the morning or afternoon.
The tour also passes Scoglio dell'Eremita, a solitary rock formation rising from the sea, and a restaurant built into a cave in the cliff face: visible only from the water. A local legend says that couples who kiss inside one of the sea caves will return to Polignano more in love than before. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of two additional languages. Pickup from your hotel in the Bari area is included, though a round-trip transport service (€10) is optional if you prefer to meet the boat directly.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Ukrainian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Abbey of San Vito and why is it on this tour?
The Abbey of San Vito dates to the 10th century and sits on the coast just outside Polignano a Mare. The boat passes it by water, and you can see the ancient complex and the fishing hamlet below it from the sea. Some tours include a brief stop to explore the abbey and the white-walled village on foot if time allows.
Can I swim and snorkel on this tour, or is it just sightseeing from the boat?
You stop for swimming and snorkeling at three coves: Lama Monachile, Cala Port'Alga, and near Cala Fetente. Snorkeling equipment is provided on board, and you spend roughly an hour total in the water across the four-hour tour.
What makes Lama Monachile different from the other swimming stops?
Lama Monachile is the most famous cove on the Polignano coast because of its narrow entrance and the dramatic limestone cliffs that frame it on three sides. The sand is golden, the water is deep and clear, and it's the most photographed spot on the tour: also the most crowded, since it's visible from the town above.
Is this tour suitable for children and families?
Yes. The tour is listed as suitable for all fitness levels, and infants can sit on an adult's lap or ride in a stroller until boarding. The boat has a toilet and shower on board, sun awning for shade, and the pace is relaxed with long stops for swimming rather than constant movement.
What's included in the price, and what costs extra?
Included are the guide, snorkeling equipment, life jackets, prosecco, coffee, tea, bottled water, snacks, the toilet and shower on board, WiFi, insurance and pickup from your hotel. A round-trip transport service from Bari (€10) is optional if you don't arrange your own ride to the boat.
