The experience

The drive out from Sistiana was quiet, just the hum of the van and a bit of morning mist hanging over the fields. Our guide, Luka, kept things lively with stories about Slovenia’s karst landscape. It’s perched halfway up this cliff: honestly looks like something out of a movie. Inside, you can almost feel how cold and tough life must’ve been centuries ago. There’s a draft in every room and echoes bounce off stone walls. Luka told us about Erazem, the local legend who held out here during a siege. Apparently there’s still debate in town about how he managed it for so long. The Lokva River disappears right under the castle. You can hear it if you stand quietly near the back entrance.
