The experience

The day starts with pickup at Piazza Giuseppe Verdi in central Palermo and heads to Monreale, where you explore the cathedral built by King William II. The interior is covered in gold-leaf mosaics and intricate decoration. If weather permits, the terrace opens onto views across Palermo and the Conca d'Oro valley. You move through the site at your own pace, taking the time the cathedral demands.

From there the group drives to Segesta, an archaeological park in the interior where a Greek temple and an ancient theater sit on the hillside. The temple is one of the best-preserved Greek structures in Sicily, built by the Elymian people who inhabited the region before Greek settlement. A shuttle service runs up to the theater at the summit if you want both. That ticket is separate. Lunch happens in the landscape between stops, and you choose where and what to eat.

The eight-hour loop means you're back in Palermo by afternoon. The driver handles the route and the vehicle is air-conditioned. Fuel and parking are covered.
