A 3–4 hour e-bike tour of Orvieto led by a live guide, crossing the medieval quarter, the Rocca di Albornoz fortress, the Piazza del Duomo and the Underground excavated in tuff. The Experience

Three to four hours on e-bikes means you cover ground without the strain of a regular bike, moving through centuries in a single afternoon. The route starts underground—literal tunnels carved in tuff by the Etruscans, now lit and walkable, where a qualified guide explains what each layer of stone represents. Then you emerge into the medieval quarter, narrow streets where artisans still work trades their families have held for generations, and ride to the Church of San Giovenale, built in 1006, to see the 12th-century frescoes still visible on its walls.

The Rocca di Albornoz fortress sits on the cliff edge, and from there the panorama opens south and west over the Paglia River valley and Mount Peglia. A scenic loop around the historic center lets you see the countryside from above in all directions before you arrive at the Piazza del Duomo—one of the most photographed cathedrals in the world—where you stop at Cantina Foresi. This ancient wine cellar is carved into the tuff itself, and you taste local wines and typical products seated in front of the Duomo. The Piazza della Repubblica and the Church of Sant'Andrea, where layers of different civilizations are still legible in the stone, close the route.

E-bikes are sanitized before and after each use; masks, gloves and gel are supplied. The pace is slow enough to absorb what you're riding through—the operator calls it "slow tourism"—and fast enough that the day holds together without feeling rushed. A guide speaks English, Italian or Russian throughout, and infants can ride in a pram or stroller, or in specialized infant seats if they're old enough to sit upright.
