The Experience

The bus pulls away from Molo Beverello in the morning, climbing out of Naples through Via Toledo and the city's narrow streets before the road opens toward the coast. You're heading south to Positano first — the route winds along the cliffs, and the Mediterranean comes into view in pieces: a slice of blue between buildings, then the whole expanse. The audioguide plays as you go, filling in the names of towns and the history of the coast, but mostly you're watching the switchbacks and the drop and the way the light hits the water. It takes a couple of hours to reach Positano, and when the bus stops at Sponda, you step out into the kind of place that photographs never quite capture — steep, colorful, loud with Italian voices and the smell of lemon trees.

You have free time in Positano to walk the main street, sit at a café, or just stand on the terraces and look down at the beach. The town is small enough that you can't get lost, but there's enough to do that the hours don't drag. Around 13:10, you board the bus again — same one, same driver — and it's a short ride to Amalfi, where the bus stop is in Piazza Flavio Gioia. Amalfi is bigger than Positano, less vertical, with a cathedral and a main square where locals actually live their lives. You have time to walk into the cathedral, buy a lemon granita, browse the shops, or just sit. The return bus to Naples leaves at 16:30, so you know when you need to be back at the stop.

The drive back to Naples follows the same coast road in reverse, and the light is different now — lower, warmer. The air-conditioned bus is a relief after hours of walking in the sun. You arrive back at Molo Beverello in the evening, having seen two of the Amalfi Coast's most famous towns without renting a car, navigating the roads yourself, or paying separately for each piece of the day. A tour assistant is on board the whole time if you have questions about timing or the route.
