The experience
You arrive at Cantina Del Vesuvio on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, where the Russo family has been making wine for three generations. A member of the family leads you through the vineyards, explaining how the volcanic soil, sea proximity and abundant sunlight shape the grapes that become Lacryma Christi DOP: the region's signature wine. The winery sits inside the National Park, so the views open across the Gulf of Naples toward Capri Island and the Peninsula of Sorrento as you walk.
After the vineyard tour, you move to the tasting. Five carefully selected wines arrive paired with a three-course lunch: a typical appetizer from Vesuvius, homemade spaghetti made with Piennolan tomatoes grown on the volcano, and a traditional Neapolitan pastiera. Each wine is introduced and its pairing explained, so you taste how the soil and the food speak to each other. Beverages flow throughout, and if you have dietary needs (vegetarian, allergies, restrictions). You can flag them at booking and the kitchen adjusts.
The whole experience sits inside two hours, so it fits a free afternoon without swallowing the day. Children from age four are welcome, and the winery is fully wheelchair accessible, with accessible transportation options nearby if you need them.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (4 to 17 years). Children under 4 can't be included in the booking.
Can I do this wine tasting if I don't drink alcohol?
The experience centers on five wine tastings paired to each course, so wine is central to what you're tasting. Beverages are included throughout the meal, but you'd want to confirm with the winery at booking whether a non-alcoholic pairing option exists for the tasting portion itself.
What exactly is Lacryma Christi DOP, and why is it special to Mount Vesuvius?
Lacryma Christi DOP is an organic wine produced on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, protected by a designation of origin that guarantees it comes from this specific volcanic region. The volcanic soil, the sea breeze from the Gulf of Naples, and the intense sunlight create conditions that give the wine its character, and the family guide walks you through how those elements shape what ends up in your glass.
Is this tour private, or will I be with other people?
The experience is shared. You'll be part of a small group tasting together at the winery. A live guide in English or Italian leads the vineyard tour and the tasting, and the three-course lunch is served to the group.
How do I get to the winery on Mount Vesuvius?
Public transportation options are available nearby, and transportation to the winery is wheelchair accessible. If you're arranging your own transport, the winery is located inside the National Park of Vesuvius on the slopes overlooking the Gulf of Naples.
Can my four-year-old come along?
Children are welcome from age four. The winery is fully accessible with strollers and prams, and a vegetarian menu option is available if your child needs it. Just let them know at booking.
