The experience

The tour picks you up from your hotel, port or arrival point and heads first to Mount Etna, Europe's highest volcano at 3,330 meters. You walk around the rim of a large extinct crater and take in views of the surrounding landscape shaped by the volcano itself. From there, the route moves to Naxos Bay, where you stroll along the waterfront, photograph Etna from the seaside, and stop for coffee with the waves nearby.

Castelmola sits on a rock just five minutes above Taormina: a medieval village with a 13th-century castle and views down to the Bay of Naxos and across to the volcano. You have time to explore the town center and eat lunch at a panoramic restaurant overlooking both the bay and Mount Etna. The descent to Taormina follows, where you spend one or two hours walking the ancient Roman pedestrian path that crosses the town, visiting the Greek theatre, monuments, shops and restaurants. A quick city tour of Messina or Catania rounds out the day before your return to the dock or your preferred endpoint, timed for your departure.

The guide speaks your language throughout, and the van carries bottled water and WiFi on board. Entrance tickets to sites are separate. Gratuities are at your discretion.
