The experience
The walk starts in Levanto's medieval center and climbs inland through the woods, passing the Lovara farm (a restored agricultural property with vegetable gardens and vineyards) before the path swings back toward the coast. Once you reach the road, you turn right and head toward Punta Mesco, where the real views begin: a panoramic stop lets you see the entire Cinque Terre coast and the sea below. The stretch that follows is the most dramatic part of the day, a clifftop path with the sea on one side and the villages strung along the coast on the other.
From the panoramic balcony, you continue to the Monastery of Sant'Antonio, a Benedictine ruin dating to around 1000 AD, and stop at the old lighthouse station nearby. Both offer views back across the Cinque Terre. The final descent follows a staircase path down the hillside into Monterosso, where the trek ends in the village center. The whole route takes about five hours, and your guide handles the navigation and context for the sites along the way.
