The Experience

You start at the shore of Lake Garda and head straight into the Ponale Road, a single-track ledge carved into the cliff face that overlooks the water for most of the climb. The e-bike does the work of the elevation—you pedal, but the motor carries the weight—so your legs stay fresh enough to notice the Ora del Garda wind, the smell of wild rosemary, and the view that stretches from Monte Baldo across to Torbole. The road was built in 1851 and closed to cars over a century ago; now it belongs to hikers and bikers. You'll ride it as the bikers do, watching the lake drop away beneath you.

The climb ends at Valle di Ledro, a lake at 650 meters that sits in its own pocket of the mountains—so clear and cold that most of the shore is open for swimming, though you won't stop there. Instead you descend to Sartori Organic Farm, a small vineyard operation that grows PIWI grapes, varieties bred to resist fungal disease without pesticides. A guide walks you through the rows overlooking the lake, then brings you inside for a tasting of their wines paired with a board of local cheeses, cold cuts from the valley, their own Garda Extra Virgin Olive Oil and olive pâté. The farm is not a commercial tasting room; the welcome is familiar and the pace is slow.

The tour includes the e-bike with helmet, lights and a backpack with padlock and emergency kit; a water bottle to refill along the way; and everything at the farm—the guided vineyard tour, the wine tasting, the food board, and a soft drink. A live guide leads the whole day in English, Italian or Romanian. The route is six to seven hours door to door, with the physical demand front-loaded in the climb; the farm stop is the reward where you sit.
