The Experience

The boat leaves from Levanto, right under Villa Agnelli at the Pietra, and heads straight toward Monterosso. You're on the water within minutes—no long drive, no waiting around—and the five villages start appearing one after another as you move along the coast. Monterosso, Vernazzo, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore. From the boat, they look completely different than they do from the hiking trails or the train. The stone buildings sit right at the waterline, and you can see why people built here in the first place. Captain Marco knows this stretch of Ligurian coast the way someone knows their own neighborhood, and he talks about it as you go.

The snorkeling happens in the bays and coves between villages—not a rushed ten minutes, but real time in the water where the rocks drop away and the light changes. The equipment is provided, and the stops are planned around the Marine Park boundaries. Between swims, you're back on the boat with an aperitivo: salami and cheese from Cooperativa Casearia Val di Vara (the first dairy in the region to get EMAS certification), focaccia, local Vermentino wine from Levanto, prosecco, and a few other things. It's not a snack—it's a proper spread, and it arrives when you're hungry and salt-dried from the water. The pastries come from Pasticceria Bianchi in town, still warm. Coffee and cappuccino are there too if you want them.

What makes this different from other Cinque Terre boat tours is that it's small and it's run by someone who actually lives here. Rosa Dei Venti isn't a big operator running ten boats a day. The group stays manageable, and the whole thing moves at a pace that lets you see the villages, swim, eat, and not feel rushed.
