The experience
Bevagna sits in the heart of Umbria's Valle Umbra, a valley floor where the cycling is flat and the medieval architecture sits close to the road. The tour starts with bike fitting and a route briefing at the shop, then rolls through Bevagna's main square for an espresso before heading out onto the Greenways Assisi-Spoleto cycle path. This stretch runs roughly 10 kilometers through farmland and past the town of Cannara, famous for both Saint Francis history and the production of the Onion of Cannara. Your guide stops for pictures and shares details about what you're riding past.
The ride ends at a working farmhouse where Mama Doriana cooks lunch from ingredients grown on the property: vegetables, grains, wine, everything. You eat on a veranda facing the pool and the olive grove, tasting organic, homemade food the way it's meant to taste. From June to September, you can swim before or after the meal. White and red wine from the farm are poured with lunch. The return ride back to the starting point is short and easy, through sunflower fields.
