Pompeii sits 150 miles south of Rome: close enough for a single day's journey between the Amalfi Coast and the capital.

This is a transfer from the Amalfi Coast to Rome, or Rome to the Amalfi Coast, with a built-in stop at Pompeii Archaeological Site. An English-speaking driver picks you up from your hotel, airport, port or train station and takes you to Pompeii, where you have up to two hours to explore the ancient city on your own before continuing to your final destination. The route covers roughly 150 miles and takes about five hours total.

The experience

The transfer works as a single journey: pickup happens at your starting point (hotel, airport, port or train station), and the driver heads toward Pompeii. You're not rushed through. The itinerary builds in time to walk the archaeological site itself, where the preserved streets, homes and public buildings of the Roman city sit exactly as they were buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD. Once you've had your fill, the driver takes you onward to Rome, the Amalfi Coast, or whichever direction you're headed. Fuel and parking are covered. The driver speaks English.

Pompeii entry costs 19 euros per person (free for anyone under 18), and you pay that separately when you arrive. A licensed guide at the site is optional and can be arranged if you contact the operator in advance. The route is straightforward highway driving, and the whole thing takes about five hours from start to finish. Luggage allowance is one medium bag or trolley per traveler. Groups of six or more with extra bags may need a larger van, which carries an additional cost.

What’s included

  • The transfer includes fuel, parking, highway tolls and an English-speaking driver.
  • entry to Pompeii and any licensed guide at the site are booked separately.

Top questions

How much time do I actually get to walk around Pompeii?

Pompeii allows up to two hours for exploration on your own. That is enough to walk the main streets and see the major structures, though a licensed guide (booked separately) can help you understand what you're looking at and move more efficiently through the site.

What is included in the transfer price and what costs extra?

The transfer includes the driver, vehicle, fuel, parking and highway tolls. Pompeii entry (19 euros per adult, free under 18) is separate, as is any licensed guide you hire at the site. Lunch is not included.

Can I do this trip in reverse, starting from Rome and ending on the Amalfi Coast?

Yes. The operator offers the route in either direction: Amalfi Coast to Rome or Rome to Amalfi Coast, with the Pompeii stop either way.

What if I'm traveling with a group and have a lot of luggage?

Each traveler is allowed one medium bag or trolley. Groups of six or more with extra luggage may need a larger sprinter van or two standard vans, which incurs an additional charge. Contact the operator to arrange this before booking.

Do I need a guide to understand what I'm seeing at Pompeii?

A guide is optional. You can explore the site on your own during your two hours there, or arrange a licensed guide in advance through the operator to get more context about the buildings and streets you're walking through.
