Step-by-step itinerary

Boat tour around Lake Garda

  • Depart from Lazise old port
  • Pass Bardolino coast and Cisano
  • View town of Garda and Rocca hill
  • Stop at Punta San Vigilio for aperitivo
  • Visit Isola del Garda by boat
  • See Grotte di Catullo from lake
  • Stop in Sirmione for free time

The experience

The boat leaves Lazise's old port and traces the eastern shore, passing Bardolino and the hamlet of Cisano before reaching the town of Garda itself, where the Rocca (a hill crowned with views across the lake) rises behind the waterfront. Punta San Vigilio comes next, a historic estate with its own small harbor where the boat stops for an aperitif (weather and availability permitting). The route then crosses open water toward Isola del Garda, a former Lombard monastery now visible from the boat, and Isola dei Conigli, the smaller rabbit island nearby.

After three hours on the water, you arrive in Sirmione with a full hour to spend ashore. Most travelers swim (bring your costume and towel), or walk the medieval streets to the Scaliger castle, visible from the boat as you approach. The Grotte di Catullo (Catullus Caves) pass by on the water during the approach. There is no toilet on board, so plan accordingly. The boat carries a live guide who speaks English, Italian or German, and Prosecco, bread and water are served throughout the journey. Come to the meeting point ten minutes early, wear sun protection, and note that dogs are not permitted on board.
