The experience

You arrive at the castle's main door where the Earl's Butler and the Ladies of the castle greet you and lead you into the Dalcassian Hall. Before dinner begins, you mingle with the castle entertainers and receive a goblet of mead: a honey wine that sets the medieval tone. The hall fills with the sound of harp and fiddle, followed by choral singing from the Ladies. The Earl's Butler then takes over, recounting the castle's history with wit and ceremony, and explains the Rules of Chivalry that governed life at Knappogue, along with the consequences of breaking them.

The meal unfolds in courses: smoked Irish salmon with cucumber and dill salad, tomato and basil soup, then the main course of supreme of chicken in Veronique sauce served with creamed potatoes and roasted root vegetables. Dessert is a rastin apple and cinnamon crunch, followed by coffee or tea. If you've requested a vegetarian option, you'll receive a tomato and buffalo mozzarella tartlet with red onion and marmalade garlic aioli instead of the chicken course. The live entertainment continues throughout, weaving storytelling and song into the evening.
