Summary

Giant columns, sea winds at dunluce castle and belfast murals

You’ll cross a cliffside bridge into Dunluce Castle, climb over surreal hexagonal rocks at Giant’s Causeway, and wander through Belfast’s mural-lined streets — all with a Spanish-speaking guide from Dublin. Expect salty air, local stories, time for lunch by the sea, and a day that sticks with you long after you’ve washed off the mud.

experience

What’s the experience like?

“Careful there,” our guide Miguel called out as I hesitated at the little bridge to Dunluce Castle — honestly, my legs wobbled more than I’d admit. The cliffs just drop away under your feet, and you can taste the salt in the air. Miguel told us about shipwrecks right where we stood (he got really into it; I could almost see the galleon crashing on the rocks). There was this old stone wall, cold and rough if you ran your fingers along it. I kept looking out at the grey water and thinking how people actually lived here, with that wind howling all winter.

After that we drove up to the Giant’s Causeway — which is stranger in real life than in any photo. The stones are so… neat? Like someone arranged them by hand, but they’re just there, thousands of them. We climbed around for ages (I slipped once — shoes still muddy), and then sat down for lunch with the sea stretching out forever. Our group tried to spot Scotland across the water but all I saw were clouds. Someone had packed cheese sandwiches that smelled like home, which made me laugh because here we were in this wild place eating something so ordinary.

Belfast was last. The Falls neighborhood is covered in murals — some angry, some hopeful. Our guide explained what they meant; I didn’t catch every word but you could feel the weight of it. The city center felt lighter somehow, people hurrying past St George’s Market with bags of fruit or flowers. It rained a bit (of course), but nobody seemed to mind much. On the way back to Dublin, I kept thinking about those stones at Giant’s Causeway and how small you feel standing on them. Still do sometimes.
