The experience

You start at the Irish Whiskey Museum in central Dublin, where an instructor meets you and walks through two competing origin stories of Irish coffee, then you decide which one holds up. The drink arrived in the 1940s, and the museum gives you both versions before you ever touch a cup. That context matters because you're not just mixing ingredients. You're learning why this particular combination of coffee, whiskey, sugar and cream became the thing people order in Dublin and nowhere else.

Then you make your own. The instructor shows you how to get the color right, how to layer the cream so it floats instead of sinking, and how to balance the flavors so the whiskey doesn't drown the coffee. You take notes. The point is to walk out knowing how to remake it at home, not just to have made it once. The whole thing takes 45 minutes, so you're not standing around. You move through the history, the technique, and the tasting in one sequence.
