The experience
The tour starts at Blarney Castle, where you kiss the legendary Blarney Stone and then have the grounds and gardens to yourself with the guide. This private walk through the estate is what sets the tour apart from the standard castle visit. After Blarney, you head into Cork City to the English Market, one of Europe's oldest covered markets, then to St. Finbarr's Cathedral, a gothic structure built between 1864 and 1879 on a religious site dating back to the 6th century. The guide's storytelling and knowledge of Cork's history frame each stop.
You travel in a new Ford Transit Custom with air conditioning and USB outlets in the back to charge phones and cameras (bring your own cable). The driver is the same National Tour Guide for the entire tour. He has completed the National Tour Guide Certification and leads all his own tours, so you get consistency and local expertise rather than a rotating guide. Travel time is built into the five-hour duration, and pickup from your hotel is included.
The tour has won a Badge of Excellence. A moderate level of fitness is needed for walking the castle grounds and moving through the city on foot.

Is this one for you? This tour works best if you want a single guide who knows Cork deeply and can weave the history and stories together as you move through the sites, rather than a larger coach with a rotating commentary. Top questions
What exactly is the Blarney Stone and why do people kiss it?
The Blarney Stone is a block of stone built into the wall of Blarney Castle, and the tradition is to kiss it for the "gift of the gab": the ability to speak persuasively. You'll have the chance to do it during your visit to the castle.
Do I need to pay extra to enter Blarney Castle?
Blarney Castle entrance is not included in the tour price, so you'll pay the castle's entry fee when you arrive. The guide takes you through the grounds and gardens once you're inside.
How much time do I spend at each stop?
The tour is five hours total, including travel time between Cork and Blarney. You have time to kiss the stone, walk the grounds and gardens, browse the English Market, and see St. Finbarr's Cathedral, but the exact time at each stop depends on the day's flow and your group's pace.
Is St. Finbarr's Cathedral entrance included?
St. Finbarr's Cathedral entrance is not included in the tour price. You can view the exterior and learn about its history from the guide, and you're welcome to pay for entry if you'd like to go inside.
How many people travel on the minibus?
The Ford Transit Custom holds up to seven passengers comfortably, so your group stays small and the guide can give personal attention to everyone on board.
