Summary

Private driver to bali’s waterfalls volcano temples and ubud

You’ll feel Bali’s pulse up close: cool spray from Tegenungan Waterfall on your skin, incense drifting through Tirta Empul Temple, mountain air at Kintamani as you eat lunch with volcano views, and the quiet beauty of Tegalalang Rice Terrace before wandering Ubud’s market stalls. It’s not just sightseeing — it’s feeling Bali breathe around you.

experience

What’s the experience like?

We met our driver just after breakfast — he smiled, said “call me Wayan,” and off we went. The road from Ubud was busy but not in a stressful way; scooters everywhere, families riding three to a bike, someone selling tiny bananas at the corner. First stop: Tegenungan Waterfall. You hear it before you see it — that low, steady roar. The path down is all concrete steps (my knees noticed), but it’s safe and there’s this damp, earthy smell as you get closer. I got splashed by some kids playing near the edge. Didn’t expect to laugh that early in the day.

Tirta Empul Temple was next. Wayan explained how locals come here for purification rituals — he pointed out which fountains are for what (I tried to remember but honestly forgot half). The air smelled of incense and wet stone, and people moved quietly around us, some in bright sarongs. I felt awkward taking photos at first but nobody seemed to mind; one woman even smiled at my attempt to tie my sash properly (failed). It’s busy but not rushed, if that makes sense.

The drive up to Kintamani is longer than I thought — winding roads with sudden glimpses of rice terraces and those little roadside shrines everywhere. When we finally reached the viewpoint, Mount Batur just sat there behind a thin veil of cloud. We had lunch right by the window; buffet style, nothing fancy but the fried tempeh was good. There’s this cool mountain breeze that sneaks in if you sit close enough. I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.

After lunch we stopped at Tegalalang Rice Terrace — green on green on green, almost too much for your eyes after a while. Some tourists were doing the swing thing (not for me), so we just walked along the edge while Wayan told us about his uncle who still farms here. Last bit was Ubud Palace and market: lots of colors, wood carvings, silk scarves… I bought a small woven bag after haggling badly (the seller laughed and gave me a better price anyway). We ended up back at our hotel before sunset, tired but sort of floaty from it all.
