The experience
Your hotel pickup happens after breakfast, and the drive to Churmura village runs about 30 km along the Agra-Mathura highway. The elephant center is where rescued animals live after being removed from owners who used them for labor and transport. You spend two to three hours there watching the elephants during their daily routines (bathing, feeding on fodder), and a documentary screens showing each animal's individual history and how it came to the center.
The second stop is the bear rescue center at Keetham Lake, a forest setting where sloth bears that were once used by tribal handlers now live in rehabilitation. The lake itself draws Indian and migratory birds, so the setting offers chances to photograph wildlife beyond the bears. After your time at the center, the drive back to Agra completes the day.
