If you’re looking for real desert life—not just photos—this tour lets you ride camels, eat local food, sleep in comfort under open skies, and meet people who actually live here. It’s not rushed or crowded; just honest adventure mixed with quiet moments you’ll remember long after.
The first thing that hit me was the quiet. Out in Khuri village, you can actually hear the wind moving across the sand. Our driver picked us up in Jaisalmer—no hassle, just a smooth ride out to the edge of the Thar desert. Once we got to camp, I noticed the tents right away: big canvas Swiss tents with proper beds and clean sheets. No sharing unless you want to—each group gets their own space.
We started with a camel safari. The camels are gentle (mine was called Raju), and our guide, Mohan, pointed out wild herbs growing by the path. After about an hour of slow swaying through golden dunes, we stopped at a pottery house. The smell of clay hung in the air while an old man spun pots on a wheel—he let us try shaping one ourselves. Lunch came next: dal, fresh roti, and spicy pickles served under a patch of shade deep in the desert. Simple but honestly some of the best food I’ve had.
Later in the afternoon, we hopped into jeeps for a fast ride over sand dunes—windows down, sand whipping past. As sunset crept in, everyone climbed up a dune to watch the sky turn orange and purple. There’s something about that silence at dusk that sticks with you. After dark, musicians set up around a small fire; drums and singing carried across camp while we ate dinner under stars so clear it felt like you could reach up and grab them.
I tried sleeping outside for a bit—just lying on my back on cool sand—but ended up back in my tent when it got chilly around midnight (bring a sweater if you come in winter). Next morning after breakfast, we headed out to Desert National Park. Saw wild camels trotting along and even caught sight of a fox darting behind some bushes. Our guide knew all the birds by name—he pointed out an eagle circling overhead before we drove back to Jaisalmer.
