The experience
Dandasahi is one of two heritage villages where this workshop runs, and the master artisan walks you through the full arc of pattachitra before you pick up a brush. The opening segment covers the history and mythology embedded in the art. The guide translates in English so the nuances land clearly. Then the artisan demonstrates the technique in real time, showing you the basics of how the paint, brushes and base material come together.
The creation segment is where you make your own pattachitra under the artisan's supervision. You're not watching a demonstration. You're painting, guided through the process as you go. The workshop provides all the equipment: brushes, paint and base material. When you finish, the piece is yours to carry back. Afterward, lunch is served at the workshop itself: an ethnic Odia meal prepared in the traditional style, and a chance to see more of the artisan's finished work. You can buy pieces directly if you want to support the artist further.
The workshop runs about three and a half hours total. A live guide speaks English, Hindi and Bengali, so language is not a barrier. Pickup is included in at least one of the two booking options (Dandasahi with Travel or Dandasahi alone), so check which one fits your logistics when you book.

Is this one for you?Book the Dandasahi with Travel option if you need pickup from your hotel. Choose Dandasahi alone if you can reach the heritage village on your own. Either way, you're learning from an internationally awarded artist in a working village, not in a tourist studio, so the experience stays rooted in the place where the art actually lives.
