The experience
The tour starts with a walk through the plantation itself. As you move along the trail, the farmer points out how coffee plants grow from seedlings in the nursery through to mature plants ready for picking. Coorg's coffee is shade-grown under native trees of the Western Ghats, a UN biodiversity hotspot, which gives it the mild flavor the region is known for. Two varieties grow here: arabica and robusta, with Coorg's robusta recognized as the best in the world and exported across Europe.
The walk ends at the host's house, where you move from the field to the cup. Here you learn about the different blends Coorg produces and taste the flavors yourself. Coffee and local cookies are served, so you sit with what you've just learned about and experience it directly. The whole experience runs about an hour, paced by the farmer who knows the land and the crop firsthand.
