Ride a snowmobile up Langjokull to the summit, with gear and a guide who knows the glacier

Snowmobile from Husafell Activity Center to the top of Langjokull glacier on the west side, where fewer tours run and the pace stays personal. You receive a helmet, buff, overshoes and warm overalls at the base, then travel by bus to the glacier edge for safety instructions before riding uphill with a local guide who explains the route and helps you frame photos at the top.

The experience

You start at Husafell Activity Center, where you get fitted with a helmet, buff, overshoes and warm overalls. A bus takes you to the edge of Langjokull glacier, where your guide walks you through how to operate the snowmobile and what to expect on the glacier itself. Then you ride up to the summit, with your guide explaining the terrain and the glacier as you go.

The west side of Langjokull draws fewer riders than the east, which is why the operator keeps the groups small and the experience personal. Your guide is local and knows the glacier well enough to point out what you're seeing and to stop for photos when a moment is worth keeping. The whole outing runs about two hours from start to finish.
