Two machines, two views of Iceland in a single morning.

This combo activity in Reykjavik pairs a 1.5-hour ATV ride across mountain terrain with a helicopter flight over the capital and surrounding ranges. You start with hotel pickup, get briefed and geared at the base camp, then drive up to Reykjavik Peak before being transferred to the helicopter office. The helicopter includes a 20-minute landing on a mountain peak to step out and take in the view. No ATV experience is required, and children from age 8 can ride as passengers.

The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Reykjavik hotel at 9:00 AM and a short drive to the ATV base camp. There you'll get a safety briefing and all the instruction you need—no prior riding experience required. You'll be outfitted with a helmet, gloves, overalls, ski mask and rain gear, then head out across the countryside and up into the mountains. The 1.5-hour ride takes you through rugged trails in the Icelandic wilderness, climbing to Reykjavik Peak, where you'll stop to see the view across the capital before heading back down.

After the ATV portion, the team drops you at the helicopter office. From there you fly over Reykjavik and the local mountain ranges, taking in views that only exist from the air. The highlight is a landing on a mountain peak where you get out for 20 minutes to stand and absorb the landscape. This is the kind of vantage point you cannot reach any other way in a single morning.

The helicopter team can arrange a taxi back to your hotel at the end. The whole experience runs about 5 hours from start to finish. You can book as a single rider on your own ATV or share one with another person—both options include the same ATV terrain and helicopter flight.

Top questions

What's the ATV ride actually like for someone who's never ridden before?

No experience is necessary. You get a full safety briefing and driving instruction at the base camp before you head out, and the guides make sure you're comfortable on the quad bike before tackling the mountain terrain.

Do I ride the ATV alone or can I share it with someone?

You choose at checkout: single rider means you operate your own ATV, or you can share one with another person on the same bike. Both options include the full 1.5-hour ride and the helicopter flight.

What happens during the helicopter part—do you just fly over the city?

You fly over Reykjavik and the mountain ranges around it, and the helicopter lands on a mountain peak for 20 minutes so you can step out and see the landscape from that vantage point before flying back.

Can my 10-year-old come along?

Children from age 8 can ride as passengers on the ATV or in the helicopter, though a valid driver's license is required if an adult wants to operate the quad bike themselves.

How do I get back to my hotel after the helicopter tour ends?

The helicopter team can order a taxi for you at the end of the tour. Hotel drop-off is not included, so you'll arrange your return from the helicopter office.

What gear do I need to bring, or is everything provided?

Helmet, gloves, overalls, ski mask and rain gear are all included. Wear warm layers underneath since you'll be riding in Icelandic mountain conditions, and bring a valid driver's license if you're operating the ATV.
