The experience

Over an hour, you'll be surrounded by more than 20 huskies that are bred and raised as family members rather than working sled dogs alone. These dogs are trained to meet visitors. They'll give kisses, seek cuddles and pose for photos while you hang out in the kennel. A live guide in English talks you through what the dogs do, how they're cared for and what makes this particular pack tick. Both children and adults get the same access to the dogs. There's no separate viewing area or barrier between you and them.

The kennel sits just outside Akureyri, and pickup from your hotel is included in the booking. You can take as many pictures and videos as you want during the hour, and the dogs' friendliness and curiosity make it easy to get the shots you came for. Infants need to sit on an adult's lap, and the activity is suitable for all fitness levels. You're moving around the kennel at your own pace, not hiking or climbing.
