The Experience

The water's already steaming when you arrive. The Blue Lagoon sits in a lava field about 40 minutes from Reykjavik, and the mineral-rich pool stays open until 10pm, so you can soak whether you land at dawn or want to unwind after a day of driving. The transfer picks you up from Keflavik Airport or your Reykjavik hotel — timing varies with traffic, but the driver knows the route and you don't have to navigate it yourself after a flight or rental car handoff.

Once you're there, the lagoon itself is the whole point. The water sits at around 37–39°C year-round, warmed by geothermal heat beneath the lava. You get a towel, a locker, and depending on which entrance level you choose, either a silica face mask or both silica and mineral masks — the kind of thing people usually buy separately at spas. A non-alcoholic drink is included too. The lagoon runs deep enough to float in, shallow enough to stand, and the mineral content is high enough that you actually float without trying. Bring your own swimsuit or rent one there; don't wear jewelry because the minerals will damage it.
