Horseback Riding in the Puszta with Yurt Stay
Sandy tracks and pine forests on the back of a Hungarian Warmblood horse
A one-day horseback riding activity in Hungary's Southern Puszta (European Pampas) with overnight yurt accommodation at Homoki Lodge, designed for novice and non-riders. The morning ride crosses open meadows, sandy tracks and forests where you might spot local wildlife. Includes breakfast, a saddled horse, water during the ride and a guide who adapts the pace to your ability. Guides speak English, German, Hungarian, French or Dutch. Minimum age is 16. Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy or poor cardiovascular health.
The experience
The ride starts after an overnight stay in a Superior Yurt at Homoki Lodge, where you'll sleep on the glamping site and wake to a breakfast basket of regional farm products. The morning excursion takes you across the Southern Hungarian Puszta: a landscape of wide meadows, seemingly endless sandy tracks, and pine and acacia forests that feel nothing like the riding paths elsewhere in Europe. You're mounted on a sure-footed Hungarian Warmblood horse, saddled and ready, with water provided during the ride.
The guide reads your riding ability from the start and shapes the route to match it, so whether you've never been on a horse or have some experience, the pace stays with you. As you move through open country with no fences or limits, you cross terrain where hare, roe deer, fallow deer and wild boar live. Spotting them is possible but not guaranteed. The ride is built around the idea that this is your first real introduction to horseback riding, and the horses and the route are designed with that in mind.

Is this one for you?The one-hour morning ride is a walk pace suited to novice and non-riders, so you're learning to move with the horse rather than asking it for speed: the guide adjusts the route and tempo to your comfort level, which is what makes a first ride on the Puszta possible without prior experience.
