The experience
The tour moves through San Pedro Sula's core on a route that connects the city's most significant buildings and public spaces. You'll see the St. Peter the Apostle Cathedral, built in 1936 with a Latin cross design and a central dome surrounded by paintings of the apostles. The guide explains how the cathedral's large windows with Christian figures let light flood the nave, and points out the two bell towers that frame the main entrance facing west. From there the route takes you to Morazán Boulevard, where six sculptures honor Central American heroes including Isabel of Castile and José Gerardo Barrios Espinoza. The guide walks you through the boulevard's architectural heritage, including a three-level colonial house with a columnar porch and semicircular windows that stands as an example of the era's style.
Along the way you'll pass the City Hall, completed in 1941 and now a historical landmark; the old José Cecilio del Valle school, now a cultural and artistic district for open-air concerts and art; and the Morazán Stadium, which opened in 1938 with a capacity of 18,000 and sits near the World Cup Square, a tribute to Honduras's World Cup qualification campaigns. The route also takes you up the Sierra del Merendón trail, approximately 2 kilometers long, where you reach a viewpoint overlooking the entire city and the green mountains that surround it. On clear days you can see the Coca-Cola neon sign, 10 meters high and 73 meters long, installed by the Honduran Brewery.
Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle is included throughout, with your guide providing commentary in your chosen language. The tour typically runs between 30 minutes and an hour depending on how many stops you make and how long you spend at each site.
