Cook what locals eat, then sit down and taste it

A 2-hour cooking class in your Roatan rental where a local chef teaches you to prepare authentic dishes like stewed chicken in coconut milk, fresh-caught snapper, or coconut candy. You choose the menu from a set list, get hands-on instruction in English or Spanish, and eat what you've made when the lesson ends. Ingredients are purchased separately, either by you or the chef.

The experience

The chef arrives at your condo or rental house with everything needed to teach you how Roatan cooks. You pick from a menu that includes stewed chicken in coconut milk with rice and beans, fresh local snapper with green plantains and coconut rice, or coconut candy: a dessert found only in the Caribbean. The class runs 2 hours, and you work alongside the chef the whole time, learning how she uses fresh ingredients and the techniques that make local food taste the way it does.

If you want to see where locals shop, the chef can take you to the market first. That's where you'll find the seasonal fruits and vegetables she uses, and you'll understand what's available when you cook at home later. The chef speaks either English or Spanish, so you can choose whichever works for you. When the cooking is done, the kitchen gets cleaned up, and you sit down to eat the food you just made.
