The experience
This is a self-drive tour, not a guided ride-along: you operate the 125cc Vespa yourself, and every two participants means one rider and one passenger. The route steers clear of crowded tourist zones, instead threading through the villages of Lakones and Krini on winding mountain roads that open onto views of the Ionian Sea and the Bay of Palaiokastritsa. A tour escort travels with the group to manage the route and timing.
The Enotis Museum sits on a hillside near Palaiokastritsa and walks you through the history of Corfiot olive oil and traditional production methods. From there, the route climbs to Angelokastro, a Byzantine fortress complex that commands the landscape. The drive takes about an hour from town, and the panorama from the castle walls justifies the winding approach. In Lakones, perched over 180 meters above sea level, you stop at a village kafeneion to rest, take refreshments and a light local snack, and absorb the view down to Palaiokastritsa below. On the return, the route passes the old town, the Spianada square, the Liston, and both the old and new fortresses before you arrive back at the office.
You must hold a valid motorcycle category driving license for at least two years (European A, A1, or A2 without restriction codes, U.S. riders need a motorcycle class license). Previous experience riding scooters or motorcycles is mandatory. If you're riding with a passenger, you should be comfortable handling a pillion-seat rider. The operator notes this is not safe without prior practice. Helmets, fuel, and third-party civil liability insurance are included. Bring your ID card or passport.
