Paddle to sunrise, then slip into the sea before the day crowds arrive

Sunrise sea kayaking in Rhodes combines paddling and snorkeling in one four-hour activity starting at Kathara Beach in Faliraki. You'll kayak the east coast in calm early-morning water, watch the sunrise at Anthony Quinn's Bay, swim and snorkel at Ladiko Beach, explore Seal's Cave on the return, and eat fresh Greek breakfast overlooking the Mediterranean. Small groups with certified kayak leaders, all equipment, and souvenir photos are included.

The experience

The activity starts before dawn at Kathara Beach in Faliraki, where certified kayak leaders fit you with all gear and run through a safety briefing designed for beginners. You'll paddle about 6 kilometers along Rhodes' east coast while the sea is still calm and nearly empty. The early start is what makes that possible. The paddling itself takes roughly two hours, broken into manageable stretches with stops built in.

You'll reach Anthony Quinn's Bay as the sun breaks the horizon, the light turning the water gold and red. After watching it, you paddle to Ladiko Beach for your first swim in clear water, then eat a fresh Greek breakfast with coffee or tea while sitting above the Mediterranean. On the way back to Kathara, the route passes Seal's Cave, where you can see the hidden detail of the coastline most day visitors miss. Snorkeling happens in the calm waters at Ladiko, not in a separate stop. It's part of the swim itself.

The group stays small, which means the certified leaders can tell stories about the coast and watch everyone's comfort level. All sea kayaking and snorkeling equipment comes with the booking, as do souvenir photos taken during the paddle. You'll need to bring your own water bottle for environmental reasons. Potable water is supplied but the operator asks you to refill it rather than use single-use cups.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Greek.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the actual paddling difficulty if I've never kayaked before?

The activity is beginner-friendly with a safety briefing and certified leaders in the boat with you. The paddling time is two hours across the full four-hour experience, broken into sections with rest stops at Anthony Quinn's Bay and Ladiko Beach, so you're not paddling continuously.

Can I snorkel if I'm not a strong swimmer?

You should know how to swim, as that's a requirement for safety. The snorkeling happens at Ladiko Beach in calm, clear water during the breakfast stop, and the guides are present throughout.

What exactly is at Seal's Cave?

Seal's Cave is a coastal formation you pass on the return paddle to Faliraki. The guides point out the hidden beauty of the coastline there, though the cave itself is observed from the water rather than entered.

How early do I need to wake up, and when does it finish?

The activity starts before sunrise at Kathara Beach in Faliraki and runs four hours total, so you'll be back by mid-morning. The exact start time depends on the sunrise that day, which shifts seasonally.

Do I need to arrange my own transport to Kathara Beach?

Public transportation options are available nearby Faliraki. The operator does not provide hotel pickup, so you'll arrange your own way to the beach or use the local buses that serve the area.
