The Experience

The kayak tips a little when you first push off — your trainer laughs and steadies it, and suddenly you realize the water here is so clear you can see straight through to the bottom. That's the moment it clicks: you're not on a tour boat watching the coast from a distance. You're in it, paddling yourself, at eye level with the cliffs and the small beaches the main road never shows you. The Argolic Bay stays calm most days, which is why the sea kayak route works — experienced trainers meet you at the starting point and spend time checking how comfortable you are with the paddle and the boat before you leave the shallows.

The route moves slowly enough that you can actually look around. You pass the Trikeri cape first, then the old bauxite mines cut into the hillside — the color of the rock changes as you paddle closer, rust and ochre against the blue water. After maybe an hour of paddling, you reach the Lovers Cave, a natural opening in the cliff face that drops straight into the sea. You swim inside it (life jacket stays on), and if you want, you can climb out onto the rocks above the cave mouth and dive back in. Most people do it at least once. The water is cold enough that it wakes you up completely.

You get a break at the Tigani beach before heading back — water and time to sit on the sand are included. The paddle back takes less effort because you know the rhythm now, and the trainers keep the group small enough that nobody gets left behind or rushed. Public transport stops near the meeting point if you're staying in Tyros without a car.
