The experience

The boat leaves Mandraki Old Port and heads south along the coast, passing the Medieval Walls and the spot where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. The first stop is Kallithea Springs, a 45-minute cruise away. The springs are famous for the reddish mineral water that erupts from rocks in the gulf. The healing properties have drawn visitors for thousands of years, and entry from the sea is free. You get an hour to swim in the natural springs, walk the Italian-designed buildings on shore, or simply float in the water before the boat moves on.

Afandou Beach comes next, a six-kilometer stretch of pebbles and crystal-clear water that takes 45 minutes to reach from Kallithea. The name means "invisible" in Greek: the settlement moved inland centuries ago after pirate attacks. You'll have over an hour here to swim, snorkel in the caves, or walk the beach. The Greek buffet opens on board once everyone is back, with vegetarian and gluten-free options alongside the main dishes, and white and rosé wine included. The bar also sells cocktails, coffee and local meze at extra cost.

Anthony Quinn Bay, the final stop, sits 15 minutes from Afandou and is ringed by high rocks with deep water. Thousands of small fish live here, and the boat supplies complimentary snorkeling gear so you can watch them underwater. The bay is named after the Mexican actor who filmed Cannons of Navarone on Rhodes in the 1960s and fell in love with it. He tried to buy it, but the deal never went through. You spend an hour in the bay before the one-hour return cruise to port passes Faliraki Beach and Ladiko Bay on the way back.
