Summary

Jeep safari rhodes with self-drive wild trails village stops local flavors

You’ll drive your own 4x4 jeep across Rhodes’ wild north, tackle off-road tracks with guidance, visit traditional villages like Archipoli for homemade honey tasting, walk through Seven Springs’ cool tunnel, and enjoy an optional Greek lunch under forest shade. Expect laughter, real local flavors, and small surprises along every dusty turn.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous about driving a 4x4 on Rhodes — I’m not exactly known for my off-road skills. But once we hopped into that Suzuki Jimny (after a bit of laughing at how compact it looked), something just clicked. The guide waved us on with a grin and off we went, dust swirling behind us, the air smelling like pine and wild herbs. There’s this moment when you hit the first bumpy trail, and you realize you’re actually doing it — steering through rocky paths, sunlight flickering between olive trees. It’s loud in the best way, tires crunching over gravel and everyone shouting directions or just laughing.

We stopped at this viewpoint — I wish I could remember the name, but honestly I was too distracted by the view to ask. You can see all the way down to the sea, blue on blue, and there’s just this hush except for cicadas buzzing. Then we drove through these villages where old men sat outside cafés watching us go by (one waved, or maybe he was shooing a cat). At Seven Springs, our guide told us about the tunnel — it’s dark and narrow and kind of chilly inside even when it’s hot out. Walking through there felt like being let in on some local secret.

The highlight for me was Archipoli village. We met a family who makes their own honey — real honey, not the stuff from supermarkets. They handed out tiny spoons to taste it (I tried to say thank you in Greek but probably butchered it; they just smiled). There was souma too — strong stuff! And then we had lunch under trees at a tavern nearby: moussaka, Greek salad, all those things you think you know until you actually eat them here. The eggplant salad had this smoky flavor I still think about sometimes.

After lunch we wandered over to Saint Soula church next door — tiny whitewashed walls, quiet except for birds rustling in the leaves. Our guide mentioned people come for water from its spring if they have skin problems; I splashed some on my hands just in case. The drive back felt slower somehow — maybe because nobody wanted it to end yet.
