A mosaic art workshop in the garden studio of Sparta where you learn to combine natural stone fragments and colors into a finished piece, guided by an instructor through the full three-hour session. All materials and patterns based on actual ancient mosaics from Sparta are provided. The minimum age is 12, and coffee or tea is included.

The experience

The workshop takes place in a quiet garden setting within Sparta itself, steps from the statue of Leonidas and the ruins of Ancient Sparta. You'll work with natural stone fragments, glue, color tints, tools and pre-drawn patterns, all supplied, to build a mosaic that reflects your own choices. The instructor guides you through the process hands-on, so beginners and experienced makers alike can work at their own pace and leave with a finished piece to take home.

The three-hour session gives you time to learn how mosaic art has evolved across centuries, understand the geometric designs that appear throughout Sparta's ancient sites, and complete a souvenir-quality work. Coffee and tea are included. The garden around the studio stays open to other visitors, so you'll work in a lived-in space rather than a closed classroom: part of the appeal for those who want to create without isolation.
